A study of abused children's play themes in playtherapy process

Abstract
This study analyzed the play therapeutic process for abused children in the child protection agency with play theme analysis tool by Ray(2011). The objective of this study was to increase the understanding of abused children, by sharing the experiences revealed in the play process of abused children. For this, total three boys in their 5-6 year old who experienced the physical/emotional abuse and negligence were selected as the research subjects. The results are as follows. In the whole processes of play therapy, the play themes of abused children such as 'relationship', 'power/control', 'proficiency', 'confusion/instability', 'anxiety', and 'revenge' were frequently shown. However, each theme showed the different characteristics in each child. Especially, when they were protected from the abusive situation, more positive changes were shown. The significance of this study is to provide the practical implications for abused children, by sharing the wounds of abuse experienced by children, through the play therapeutic process for abused children.
